Forced Air:
Similar to natural draft, which uses heavy metals to retain and distribute heat. These furnaces introduce heat exchangers and multi-speed blowers. Heat exchangers stretch out the usefulness of the heated air/gases from the use of tubing and other materials. Blowers pull the air from the furnace to be distributed through the house. These furnaces were designed for use with central air-conditioning systems.
Condensing:
The name derives from the fact that the furnace removes so much heat from the exhaust gas that it causes a condensation from the rapid change in temperature. These systems can be identified from the use of PVC for venting instead of metal. The use of PVC is possible due to the air leaving being much cooler from the heat being extracted much more efficiently. At the moment, this is the best way to go if you’re looking to get the most efficient system.
